Using the CACE WebSite

CACE web siteThe CACE website allows members of the Canadian Chairs of English to post job ads, publish news about developments in their departments, and contribute to the annual job survey. The site itself serves as a locus for communication among members of the association.

Logging in

login pageYou do not need to login in order to use the website. For security reasons, however, you must login if you have information you want to add to the site.

Logging in is quite a simple process. From the CACE homepage, click on members only on the navigation menu at the bottom left of the webpage. This will take you to the following login page. If this is your first time logging in, you should use the username and password you received from CACE. If your department has used the site before, it may have edited this information. If your username and/or password has been lost or forgotten, contact CACE to have it reset.

Options

options menusOnce you are logged in, you will see something like the following page. You can use this page to change your user information (username, password, contact information, etc.) add news, announce a vacancy, or contribute to the Job Survey.

Changing User Options

changing your user optionsThe first time you log in, you should change your password. You can also use the same form to add contact information and even change your user name if you find it difficult to remember or inconvenient.

You access the change user options page from the Miscellaneous link at the top left corner of the screen. Choosing Modify Personal Profile will bring you to a form that allows you to change most aspects of your department’s profile. These will be updated immediately once you select Submit.

Adding News

CACE hosts a news server that allows the public to follow new developments at its member institutions. Suitable items might include announcements of new hires, conference or prize announcements, graduate and post-doc opportunities, etc. If you think it may be of interest to the CACE membership, it is probably a suitable for distribution.

To add news, click on the Miscellaneous link in the top right hand corner of the screen, and select Add news item (other entries on the menu can be used to edit or delete already existing items). Enter the appropriate information on the form (you can leave fields blank if they do not apply) and click on the Submit button. Your news item will be published immediately to the main page of the CACE website and distributed to subscribers of the news feed.

Adding a Job Advertisement

You can also use the CACE Website to advertise new vacancies in your department. From the Miscellaneous link, select Add Job Posting. Enter the appropriate information on the form (you can leave fields blank if they do not apply) and click on the Submit button. Your news item will be published immediately to the main page of the CACE website and distributed to subscribers of the news feed.

Job Survey

The members area also allows you to contribute to the annual Job Survey. There are three different parts to this.

Faculty Statistics

adding faculty statisticsThe first concerns the overall faculty complement of your department in the current academic year. By selecting the Department Stats link, you can create a new annual report for your department or edit an already submitted one.

Tenure Track Vacancies

adding tenure track vacanciesIf your department has/had/is going to have a tenure track entry this academic year, you can record this information using the Tenure Track Position link. Since you can return to this information and edit it, there is no reason to wait until the competition is closed before opening a new entry: you can begin the entry when you have permission to advertise, add information about the candidate pull after the closing date, and fill in the final information about the successful candidate once the position has been filled. The information you enter on this form is available immediately to other members of CACE; it is also collected and reported by CACE every spring before the annual members meeting.

CLTA

If you department is advertising CLTA positions this year, you can use the CLTA tab to enter information about your searches in the same manner you do for tenure track appointments.

Conclusion

We have tried to make the CACE site easy to use and easy to customise. If you have questions or difficulties, please contact the CACE executive for additional help.
